The reason Iraq has all these assets is because they dont pay their bills, if their creditors attach these assets they wont have anything to back the rv except a lot of oil that is still in the ground. What they're asking here is for another loan from people who know they dont pay their bills. Which end do you approach a two headed snake from???...thanx Tudor

moonbeam, I had similar reactions but from a different standpoint. Iraq was told to clean up all of its outstanding debts, the Paris convention debt was specifically mentioned. I was wondering if the IMF was - in effect - assuming this debt. anyone know?

The CBI announced that it cleared 90% of its internal debts with traders and private companies, according to the Paris Convention, through which Iraq fulfilled its obligations to the entire private sector, freeing the country from a significant part of the restrictions placed upon it. and that iraq is working on a plain to paid all back by a time frame of their old debts that they owe ,so what they have borrow now that is all new debts
